A) Galvanic corrosion is caused by self-induced current created by electrical potential of two dissimilar metals in contact with an electrolyte. It can occur when two dissimilar metals (such as copper tube and steel pipe) are connected in the presence of an electrolyte. Water is a weak electrolyte. ie When Two Dissimilar Metals Come Into Contact - Electrolysis Occours ,Causing Corrosion - Rusting Of Both Surfaces
A) The quickest way to prevent Corrosion or Electrolysis from occouring is to use either our Stylus 2907 Isolation Tape, or Tesa Isolation Tape also known as Pipe Wrap Tape). Black Isolation Tape (Tesa 51482 or Stylus 2907) is a very thick, tough, durable tape (.25mm thick) used for corrosion and abrasion protection in building & construction when 2 different metal substrates will be permanently coming into contact with each other. Pipe Wrap Tape / Isolation Tape is also used for abrasion & corrosion protection - of undergournd and above ground pipes + joining of large electrical cables and conduit.
The way that our Metal Isolation Tape works, it is applied to the metal surfaces before instalation or construction occours when the 2 dissimilar metals will permantly make contact with each other. Application could be on 1, or both surfaces depending on exactly what stage of construction, if the 2 different metals are in contact temporarily or permanently, if the product will be moved, or other products will be moved around the instalation, where the Isolation tape will also protect against abrasion.
