This is a new, more effective way for gripping golf clubs. The more traditional method of gripping with paper and glue can be messy, take longer to set and dry, and the odour from the glue can be harmful. Both procedures listed below are a modern, more cost-effective and cleaner way of gripping golf clubs. Using solvent and double-sided tape allows the golf clubs to dry faster and be ready for shipping within 5–10 minutes after completion.

Products Required
- TPC Solvent – 20L Drum
- TESA 52450 Paper Tape – 48mm
- 3M 401 High Temperature Masking Tape (Green)
- 48mm Kikusui H185 Double Sided Tape (Rubber Adhesive)
- 48mm Microfibre Cloth – 40cm × 40cm, 370gsm
Product Description
- TPC Solvent – Manufactured in Sydney, Australia. Currently available in a 20L drum for use in tanks or dispensing systems. The solvent instantly neutralises the adhesion of the double-sided tape, with adhesion returning after approximately five minutes as the solvent evaporates. It is non-flammable and odourless.
- TESA 52450 Paper Tape – A high shear strength Kraft flatback paper tape, 210μm thick with a rubber adhesive.
- 3M 401 Masking Tape – High-temperature masking tape with excellent adhesion to metal, rubber, glass and plastics.
- Kikusui H185 Double Sided Tape – A double-sided tissue tape with a rubber adhesive providing excellent quick-stick performance and strong adhesion to most surfaces.
- Microfibre Cloths – Durable cloths ideal for cleaning golf clubs prior to delivery without leaving streaks or marks.
PROCEDURES
These two modern procedures are used to wrap tapes around golf club shafts.
Wrapping – A strip of 48mm tape is placed down the length of the shaft while secured in a soft vice. The tape is then folded underneath until both edges meet.
Spindling – Using 24mm tape, the tape is wound around the shaft in the same manner as a tennis racquet grip until the desired grip length is achieved. While this method takes longer than wrapping, it remains faster and cleaner than traditional glue methods when used with solvent and double-sided tape.
WRAPPING
This procedure is a simpler and more user-friendly method of gripping golf clubs. The shaft is secured in a soft vice, while the three 48mm tapes are placed in desktop dispensers for consistent tape lengths. Each tape is applied down the shaft before being folded neatly around it.
- Step 1 - Apply TESA 52450 Paper Tape. The grip thickness depends on the number of layers used (one layer = two paper wraps).
- Step 2 - Apply 3M 401 High Temperature Masking Tape if required. One layer equals one paper wrap and is commonly used for odd-number thicknesses (1, 3, 5, 7). The green masking tape also helps identify odd measurements.
- Step 3 - Apply the Kikusui H185 Double Sided Tape over the previous layers. Pour solvent into the grip while blocking the hole with a finger, then pour the remaining solvent over the tape. Slide the grip onto the shaft, align it within a few minutes, remove it from the vice and hang it grip-end down until dry.
SPINDLING
The same products and sequence are used, however each tape is wound continuously around the shaft at a slight angle until the required grip length is achieved.
Several golf club manufacturers in Sydney, including Srixon and Performance Golf, already use this modern, cleaner and more cost-effective gripping system.
We supply all of the products mentioned above for manufacturing and replacing golf grips throughout Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, Wollongong, Brisbane, Melbourne and across Australia!
