Why does tesa® 4863 have a dimpled / embossed surface?
The raised "chicken skin" or "napped" texture serves two main functions:

Maximized Non-Slip Grip: It reduces contact area friction point issues while maintaining high traction on smooth moving webs (films, papers, foils).

Release / Anti-Stick Effect: The embossed silicone surface minimizes surface contact with wet adhesives, inks, or coatings, making it difficult for sticky substances to cling to the roller.

FAQs

Does tesa® 4863 leave adhesive residue when removed?

No. The natural rubber adhesive system is engineered for clean, residue-free removal, even after long periods of operation under elevated temperatures. This allows technicians to re-wrap rollers quickly without spending time scraping off old glue residue.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Can it be applied without removing the roller from the machine?

Yes. In most applications, tesa® 4863 can be wrapped spirally around the roller directly in place, significantly reducing maintenance downtime.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

How do you know when tesa® 4863 needs to be replaced?

Inspect the wrapped roller during scheduled maintenance shutdowns. Replace the tape when:

  1. The raised dimple profile becomes flattened or worn down from heavy mechanical abrasion.
  2. Edge lifting or bubbling occurs along the spiral seam.
  3. Web slippage, lost tension, or sticky material buildup starts to reoccur.

Installation Tips

How should the roller surface be prepared before wrapping?

  1. Clean the roller: Ensure the steel or rubber cylinder is completely dry and free from dust, grease, oil, solvents, or old adhesive residue using isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or heptane.
  2. Spiral Application: Wrap the tape spirally at a uniform angle with slight tension to avoid gaps or overlaps.
  3. Firm Pressure: Apply firm pressure across the length of the wrap using a hand roller or squeegee to achieve maximum surface contact and adhesion.
