What is low surface energy substrates (that LSE tape is designed for use with) ?

Understanding the relationship between your substrate/s and the tape being applied to is critcal in ensuring the best performance as each persons requirements are unique to them so testing and selection is critical to obtain peak performance.

  • Standard adhesive - double sided tape used on a HSE SUBSTRATE will have excellent wet-out (ie; will adhere very well).
  • Standard adhesive tape, used on a LSE SUBSTRATE will have a poor wet-out (ie; will not get a good bond).
  • LSE adhesive/ d/s tape applied to a LSE SUBSTRATE will have excellent wet-out (ie; will get great results)

All substrates exhibit different levels of what is commonly referred to as “surface energy”. So what is “surface energy” when it comes to adhesive tapes? It’s the substrates ability to allow the tapes adhesive to bond (wet out) to the surface.

Simply put: the higher the substrates surface energy the easier it is for the tape to adhere to the object, ensuring a high contact surface area of bond resulting, in a higher level of tape performance. And for tape with low surface energy, this is where our LSE range of high bond double sided tapes are recomended.

LSE Tape with Easy To Remove Liner Tape range is as below;

  • 0.25mm thick - Clear - Stylus 5803
  • 0.8mm thick - Black - Stylus 5608
